During period January to December 2012, exports of goods from Latin America and the Caribbean to Asia-Pacific saw an increase of 5.9% in terms of value over the same period of 2011. This variation was considerably lower than the 23.6% growth recorded for exports to the Asia-Pacific region in 2011 as compared to 2010. However, the dynamism of these exports was higher than those destined for the rest of the world.
Imports of goods from Asia-Pacific also experienced a smaller increase in 2012 compared to 2011. This resulted in the region accumulating a trade deficit with Asia of just over USD$83 billion in 2012, down from about USD$ 86 billion in 2011.
